2. Who may use SCROOL
SCROOL is intended only for adults aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly permit minors to create or use dating accounts. If we learn that an account belongs to a person under 18, we may suspend or remove it and take appropriate steps to delete associated data, subject to legal retention requirements.
3. Personal data we may collect
- Account data: name, email address, phone number, date of birth or age, login credentials and account identifiers.
- Profile data: photos, biography, gender, gender preferences, interests, relationship preferences and other information you choose to provide.
- Location data: approximate or precise location where you enable location-based features or grant device permission.
- Activity and communications: matches, likes, profile interactions, messages, reports, blocks and other in-app activity.
- Safety and moderation data: reports, appeals, account signals and content needed to investigate misuse or enforce our rules.
- Device and technical data: device type, operating system, app version, IP address, diagnostics, crash logs and security information.
- Subscription status: product or entitlement status supplied by Apple or Google if you purchase an in-app subscription. SCROOL does not receive your full payment-card details from the app stores.
- Support data: messages and information you provide when contacting us.
4. Sensitive information
Some profile information may reveal or relate to special-category data under EU data-protection law, including information concerning sexual orientation. Where such information is optional and you choose to provide it, we will process it only where a valid legal basis and, where required, an applicable Article 9 condition such as explicit consent is available. You may withdraw consent for optional processing at any time, although this does not affect processing already carried out lawfully.
5. Why we use personal data
- to create, authenticate and maintain your account;
- to provide matching, discovery, messaging and profile features;
- to personalise the service based on settings and preferences you choose;
- to maintain safety, prevent fraud, enforce our rules, investigate reports and protect users;
- to provide customer support and service communications;
- to operate subscriptions and recognise entitlements supplied by Apple or Google;
- to diagnose errors, secure the service and improve reliability;
- to comply with legal obligations, lawful requests and regulatory requirements.
6. Legal bases
Depending on the processing activity, we rely on performance of our contract with you, your consent, our legitimate interests in providing and securing the service, and compliance with legal obligations. Where legitimate interests are used, we assess those interests against your rights and freedoms.
7. Sharing of personal data
We may share personal data with service providers that help us host, secure, moderate, support or operate SCROOL; with Apple or Google as needed for app-store subscription functionality; with professional advisers; with authorities where legally required; and in connection with a corporate restructuring, merger, acquisition or sale. We do not sell personal data for money.
8. International transfers
If personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we will use an appropriate transfer mechanism where required, such as an adequacy decision or approved contractual safeguards, and implement supplementary measures where appropriate.
9. Data retention
We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to provide the service, maintain safety, resolve disputes and meet legal obligations. Retention periods vary by data type. When an account is deleted, we aim to delete or irreversibly anonymise associated data unless limited retention is required for fraud prevention, safety, legal claims or another lawful purpose. Any retained data will be limited and protected.
10. Account and data deletion
You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data. SCROOL must also provide an in-app deletion route where accounts can be created in the app. A web deletion resource is available at Delete Account.
11. Your GDPR rights
Subject to applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, erase or restrict personal data; object to certain processing; receive portable data; withdraw consent; and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
12. Location and device permissions
Where SCROOL requests access to location, photos, camera, notifications or other device features, the app should explain why the permission is needed. You can manage device permissions through your iOS or Android settings. Some features may not function if a required permission is disabled.
13. Security
We use technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against accidental loss, unauthorised access, misuse, alteration and disclosure. No system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
14. Children
SCROOL is not directed to children. Dating and matchmaking features are restricted to adults. If you believe a minor is using SCROOL, contact us promptly at contact@scrool.ie.
15. Website cookies and analytics
This starter website is designed without advertising trackers or behavioural analytics. If analytics, marketing tools, embedded third-party services or non-essential cookies are added later, this section and any required consent mechanism must be updated before those technologies are activated.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our service or legal obligations change. We will publish the updated version here and update the effective date. Where required, we will provide additional notice in the app.
17. Contact and complaints
Privacy contact: contact@scrool.ie. You may also have the right to complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission or another competent supervisory authority.
